Some of the Answer, Urban Carbine, written by Jim Crews is a must-have in any AR-15 owner's library. If you're only going to have two manuals, get this one and the Marine Corps Technical Manual. The latter to show you everything you need to know about maintaining your rifle, and the former to show you how to use it. Both of these serve as guides to assist you in your training, but neither is a substitute for actual practice.
Jim Crews explains the purpose for the manual:
"This training manual has been written to provide a reference document for the performance of gunhandling techniques. This training manual specifically addresses the safe and tactical use of the Colt Carbine Rifle and those of similar design. This training manual is not a stand alone training program. The end user must take professional instruction in order to attain competency with the firearm of choice."
The extensiveness and completeness of the manual can be seen by glancing through the Table Of Contents:

Some of the Answer, Urban Carbine is an excellent guide to the basics of handling and deploying the AR-15 Carbine Rifle. It serves as a reference and a review to experienced shooters, and as a guide for basic instruction techniques to supplement training for less experienced shooters.
Full of black and white photographs clearly depicting the techniques described in the text, the manual is simple to follow.
The prologue written by firearms legend Col. Jeff Cooper sums it up well:
"In the book that follows you will be shown clearly and correctly how to use the M16. The theory is all there, and it has been prepared by a man who knows the subject thoroughly, not only as a practitioner but as an instructor of the arts involved. No book can teach you manual dexterity. On the other hand, a thorough knowledge of what is involved in theory is necessary to anyone who undertakes to learn how to use an instrument. The theory is all there in the pages that follow."
- Jeff Cooper, 1998
